Abstract

This study is a pragmatic study that focuses on acting speech directive as a study. The theory of speech acts directive becomes the basis as a reference in seeking a speech that contains the intention of acting speech directive in the discourse of the education column in the national daily newspaper as the formation of character education of primary school students. This study aims to find the types, structures, and intentions contained in the discourse of the national daily newspaper education column that will be used as the formation of character education in elementary school students. This research is a qualitative research using content analysis design that is written discourse document of education column written in national daily newspaper. Data analysis in this research has been done since data process and technique validity of data in this research using data triangulation technique. The type of speech act directive found in the discourse of the national daily newspaper education columns amounted to 52 data and found advising speech (9,62%), supporting (9,62%) and instructed (9,62%) which had the most amount. The directive speech acting strategy is classified into two, namely direct strategy and indirect strategy, direct strategy found in 43 data (83%) and indirect strategy of 9 data (17%). The purpose of the directive speech acts found in this study can be found 11 values of 18 values of character education that have been raised by the Ministry of National Education such as the value of religious character education, the value of honest character education, the value of character education tolerance, and so forth.
