Abstract

ABSTRACT Emotional intelligence is the ability associated with self-motivation, persist in the face of failure, controlling emotions and delaying satisfaction. the purpose of this study was to determine the emotional intelligence of adolescents by type of educational institution and gender, to know emotional intelligence based on sex in high school (SMA), vocational high school (SMK) and boarding school.The method used in this research is quantitative. Subjects in this study were students of class XI SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sragen, SMK N 1 Kedawung and SMA Baitul Qur'an with the number of samples as much as 6 study groups (classes). The sampling technique used in this research is purpuse sampling determined by the teacher concerned. Methods of data collection using the scale of emotional intelligence. Analysis technique in the research that is univariant analysis non parametric. The results obtained from this research are (a) there are differences of emotional intelligence in adolescents in terms of type of educational institution and sex obtained sig = 0,000 (p˂0,05). (b) there are differences of emotional intelligence in adolescents in terms of type of educational institutions obtained sig = 0,044 (p˂0,05), (c) there is difference of emotional intelligence in adolescence in terms of sex obtained result sig = 0,002 (p˂0, 05). The conclusion in this study is the existence of differences in emotional intelligence in terms of type of educational institutions and gender.
