Abstract

This study aimed to find out: first, The role of homeroom teacher of XI-IPS in guiding the students’ academic achievement at SMA Majelis Tafsir Al-Qur'an (MTA) Surakarta. Second, the role of homeroom teacher of XI-IPS in guiding the students’ non-academic achievement at SMA Majelis Tafsir Al-Qur'an (MTA) Surakarta. This study is a qualitative research. The subjects of this research were 4 homeroom teachers, 1 headmaster, 10 students of XI IPS at SMA Majelis Tafsir Al-Qur'an (MTA) Surakarta. The students were divided into several criterions, namely 2 high score students, 2 medium score students, 2 students who join organization, 2 students who do not join organization, and 2 students who join extracurricular. The results of this study indicated that the role of homeroom teacher of XI-IPS in guiding the students’ academic and non-academic achievement at SMA Majelis Tafsir Al-Qur’an (MTA) Surakarta was good. It meant that the role of homeroom teacher guided the the students’ academic and non-academic achievement and developed the students’ potencies. Where the homeroom teacher was able to manage the class, interacted with the parents, arranged and reported the students’ learning, organized class administration, made the special notes about both of the disciplined students and the undisciplined students which was able to monitor the students in the future, wrote and handed out the the learning outcome assessment report book and had a special note. If there was a mutation from other schools, they were still selected in the terms of curriculum which had to be the same, looking at the curriculum vitae of the students. And if there was a mutation from the school to another school, the homeroom teacher still tried to maintain in order to keep the students studying at the SMA MTA Surakarta.
