Abstract

Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease characterized by high blood pressure. If hypertension is not treated properly that can cause complications. Obstacles in the hypertension treatment can be caused by several factors such as non-compliance and lack of knowledge. This study aims to determine the effect of knowledge on adherence of hypertensive patients in the outpatient installation of RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta period February - April 2018. This research includes non experimental type research based on cross sectional approach. The number of samples in this study were 100 respondents. Sampling by purposive sampling technique. In this study used a questionnaire from Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8) and a questionnaire from Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale (HK-LS). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that patients who have high knowledge and obedient as many as 58 people, patients with high knowledge and disobedience as many as 13 people, patients with low knowledge and obedient as many as 8 people and patients with low knowledge and disobedience as much 21 people, so there is influence between the knowledge of hypertensive patients with hypertensive patient compliance. It is proved by chi square test with ρ value of 0.000 and OR value of 11.712 which means show a significant relationship between knowledge and compliance of hypertension patient.
