Abstract

Abstract Sragen Substation provides a power factor of 0.9. To achieve the defined power factor is to use the bank capacitor as a reactive power compensator. If the bank capacitor is arranged in a palarel on the bus it will cause a transient phenomenon of inrush current. This can cause damage to the system and make the bank capacitor not last long. The method used to calculate the data obtained by journal and related literature. After collecting the next reference is the retrieval of data obtained in Sragen Substation. The next step by calculating the value of circuit inductance and the value of inrush current due to switching capacitor bank. After calculating and analyzed using ANSI / IEEE C37.012-2005 standard, the inrush current value in Sragen Substation exceeds 100 times rms current. Inrush current values outside the boundary shall be muffled by using series reactors. After using the series reactor was only a step 1 condition that can be reduced inrush but current while for the second condition can not. To reduce the second inrush step the addition of series reactor should be more than 6% but not in accordance with the standard ANSI / IEEE C37.012-2005 Keyword : Power factor, switching, capacitor bank, inrush current, transient
