Abstract

The problem of the study is to reveal how major character reflects his moral prejudices and stereotypes. The objective of the study is to analyze the novel based on the structural analysis and based on sociological analysis. This study is qualitative study. The object of the study is Jason's The Sound and the Fury published in Mississippi by Everyman Publisher Inc. The data source is divided into two, namely the primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source is the novel itself and the secondary data sources related to the analysis such as the author's biography. The method of data of collection is descriptive analysis. The outcome of the study shows that through major character namely Jason can be seen the theme of The Sound and the Fury is “people may judge others based on prejudices and stereotypes”. He also perceives the reality social condition of society in early twentieth century in his environment. For example the gender issue. He shows that women get lower position than men. Therefore, prejudices and stereotypes occurred. The portraits of moral prejudices and stereotypes of The Sound and the Fury can be seen by elements of the story such as character and characterization, plot, setting, point of view, theme, style, etc are structurally in unity and related one to another, for being well organized and combining cases, and interrelated together in building wholeness. Moreover, it can be seen from the unity of several aspects such as social, economic, political, science and technology, cultural, and religious aspects
