Abstract

Red ginger rhizome (Zingiber officinale Roscoe var rubrum) contained oleoresin compounds as anti-inflammatory. The use of gel preparation has better stickiness than traditional use of simplicia. Optimalization aims to determine the ratio of Carbopol 940 and propylene glycol which yielded the optimum formula seen from physical parameters that are organoleptic, pH, viscosity, dispersion, and stickiness with simplex lattice design method. Optimum formula prediction response compared with actual response and tested suitability with one sample t-test with 95% confidence level. In the stability test of the optimum formula used freeze and thaw method 3 cycles then analyzed by paired samples t-test between the verification formula with formula after freeze and thaw third cycle. At 1.14% of carbopol 940 and 14.36% propylene glycol gel obtained results with the optimum formula. The result of verification on the prediction of optimum formula was obtained not significant result on viscosity, but at spreading and adhesiveness obtained significantly different result. The result of stability test at freeze and thaw 3 cycles was obtained stable gel result with different result not significant. Carbopol 940 has an effect on the increase of viscosity and adhesiveness, whereas propylene glycol has an effect on the increase of spreading. At 1.14% Carbopol 940 and 14.36% propylene glycol obtained the gel results with the optimum formula. In the gel stability test results are declared stable at freeze and thaw 3 cycles.
