Abstract

Welding is a process of metal grafting in which metals can connect due to heat with or without the influence of pressure. Spot welding in their use can connect several types of plate materials. So welding point is often used in the automotive industry because it has several advantages that the process is fast, good repeatability, neat and cheap. The study combines a 1.2 mm thick aluminum and 1 mm thick stainless steel with a 0.2mm thick zinc filler / filler material. This study aims to determine the effect of zinc filler on different material welding. The standard used for the specimen preparation size is ASME QW 462.9, for testing of chemical composition using ASTM A751-01 standard, while for micro and macro photo testing using ASTM E407-07 standard. Spot wlding with current parameters of 6000A, 7000A, and 8000A with time parameters 0.2seconds, 0.3seconds, and 0.4seconds. The result of chemical composition test, aluminum including type of aluminum alloy series 6019, for stainless steel including 430 series and for zinc including ZA-12 series. The results of macro testing the size of weld metal (nugget) increases with the increase of current and time. Welding with filler has a larger nugget width than non filler. In micro photo observation, there is a change of micro structure between the parent metal, HAZ and welding metal.
