Abstract

ABSTRACT In this modern era, the amount of fuel oil in the world is increasingly limited. In this case the world's automotive manufacturers compete to produce vehicles that have less fuel efficiency. With the incorporation of stainless steel and aluminum with zinc filler on the body of the vehicle is expected to be able to reduce the engine load so as to improve the efficiency. This study aims to determind the effect of zinc filler powder on the spot welding that different of stainless steel and aluminum material to the mechanical strength of the joint. Therefore, it is done a series of test including shear tensile testing and vickers microhardness testing. Of all the tests obtained that the addition of the the zinc filler powder to the amount 0.07 gr and 0.08 gr, current parameters used are 6000 A, 7000 A, 8000 A, and variation of welding time used in the research that is during 0.2s, 0.3s, 0.4s. The test results obtained strength and hardness on the specimens using 0.08 gr filler with 8000 A current variation and welding time 0.4s. The hardness in the nugget area has the highest value followed by the HAZ area and the lowest hardness in the parent metal area. From the analysis result obtained that the addition of zinc filler increases the strength and hardness of the welded joints. Keyword : Spot Welding, Different Material, Zinc Filler, Mechanical Tes
