Abstract

A composite is a combination of two or more materials to form a new material which is more useful. In this modern era, the use of composite is mainly developed in the manufacturing area and household needs including table, box speakers, wall hangings, and more. The advantages of composites are lightweight, corrosion resistant, waterproof, etc. In this research the filler materials used to create composite were sawdust wood and fibre stem of banana leaf with a matrix of epoxy resins. The variables studied were soaking time variations of fiber (20, 30, and 40 minutes) and variations in the composition of the filler material, i.e. wood sawdust with the stem of banana leaf fibers by comparison of 10:30, 15:25, 20:20, 25:15, 30:10. The samples were taken randomly from the comparisons of the 10:30, 20:20, and 30:10. The composite analysis included testing the density and tensile testing with standard ASTM D638. The results obtained were the maximum tensile strength with a ratio of 30:10 specimens of 6.3 Mpa, 4.35 Mpa for specimens with a ratio of 10:30, and 2.8 Mpa for specimens with a ratio of 20:20.
