Abstract

This research is conducted in South Konawe Regency considering its strong potential and attraction of tourism so it is possible to attract domestic and foreign tourists. The objectives of this research are: (1) To classify the potential level toward natural tourism objects in South Konawe Regency (2) To know the dominant factor of the drivers and obstacles towards tourism development (3) To know the development strategy over tourism development.The research method used is SWOT analysis. This method is then used to analyze the results data of survey and interviews towards the Department of Tourism Economy and Creative of South Konawe Regency. The SWOT method is also used as analysis technique to know the potential of nature tourism in the research area by looking at its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The result of this research shows that the tourism objects of south konawe regency have medium potential which means the condition of each tourism object is balanced between the driving and its obstacle factor. Driving factors are a strong tourist attraction for sustainable tourism development, while the obstacle factors are the lack of government attention to tourism object management and the lack of infrastructure and other supporting facilities. The priority strategy of development directives for this research area is the S & O strategy of optimizing the strengths to exploit opportunities.
