Abstract

ABSTRACT Technological developments in the increasingly advanced automotive industry require companies engaged in this field to be able to produce good products and in accordance with market demand. Material selection will affect the vehicle engine load that affects the efficiency of the vehicle engine itself. Resistant spot welding (RSW) is a welding method that is often used to connect two pieces of plate material in the automotive industry. This research uses Mild steel and aluminum material with additional zinc filler (Zn). Welding is done by setting the current parameters of 6000A, 7000A, 8000A and welding time 0,2s, 0,3s, 0,4s. The standard used is ASTM E407-07 for macro and micro photo testing. On macro photo observation, it is found that the current and time parameters affect the width of weld metal (nugget). The width of the nugget increases with the increase of current and weld time. In the micro photograph seen martensitic phase formed on mild steel nugget, whereas in aluminum only a big change of grain.
