Abstract

The purpose of this study are to determine the factors that are driving cheating behavior and how do the Accounting Education students of Muhammadiyah University Surakarta cheat at the exam. The research type used in this study is descriptive qualitative with ethnographic research design. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interview and documentation. While , the data analysis techniques are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of this study indicate there are two factors causing the Accounting Education students cheat on the test: the first is internal factors and the second is external factors. The internal factors are less internsive learning of the students due to their laziness or they do not have the learning material, lack of knowledge about cheating negative effects, and the habit of cheating that has been done since the beginning education level. Wheres, the external factor are the pressure to get high test results, peer influence, and regulations that have not been respected by the students. In addition, the factors of cheating behavior, the researcher also found some 2 way that done by the students in cheating so they can not to be caught by the supervisor during the exam. They do individualy cheating (carrying a small notes that covered by test cards, hide it inside stationery containers or under calculators, and using smartphones for searching the answer of the exam question) and social methods (exchanging test questions already filled with answers, reading the answers, tilting the answer sheets so their friends can see it, and sharng the answers via social media).
