Abstract

This study aims to describe the formation of responsibility and friendly characters through karawitan activities, the constraints encountered, and the solution of the constraints. The subjects of the study were extracurricular karawitan participants in SMAN 3 Klaten. Indicators character responsibility in this study are (1) learners carry out the task wholeheartedly; (2) learning with high spirits; (3) trying to achieve achievement; (4) association with love; (5) accountable to the options taken; (6) has discipline; (7) do the job well; (8) orderly perform duties; and (9) make improvements in case of errors. The indicators of friendly character in this research are (1) the existence of good interaction atmosphere; (2) communicating with polite language; (3) mutual respect and honor among friends; (4) association with love; (5) understanding the feelings of others; (6) not at will; and (7) mutual tolerance. The research method used is qualitative, and using observation data collection techniques, interviews, and documentation with flow model analysis. The results showed that the establishment of responsibility and friendly character through karawitan activities in SMAN 3 Klaten is as follows: understanding the global insight about the development of world-class musicians; event stimulation; a thorough and compact encouragement; eliminating selfishness; always present practice; routine training time allocation; examples related to the pattern of standard karawitan games and working on; focus on learning gamelan instruments; material challenges with a high degree of difficulty; good interaction in karawitan games; the educational content of Java character; can cuddle with each other; building togetherness; sharpening taste; learning ethics of Java people; and musical philosophy that has gamelan instruments that shape, how to beat, and character of different sounds but have the same purpose. Constraints faced by the facilitator are often more important; poor children's ability; dense child activity; and lack of gamelan facilities for the slendro barrel. Solution Constraints in the Formation of Responsible and Friendly Characters through Karawitan in SMAN 3 Klaten, including: given the allocation of additional training time based on agreement; the existence of a special time allocation for participants who have less ability; changing exercise time on another day; as well as the procurement of slendro barrel gamelan
