Abstract

This study aims to describe students' errors in solving the matter of rank and root form of class X Accounting and analyze the factors causing students to make mistakes. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the study were the students of Grade X Accounting SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta year 2017/2018. Data collection methods used in this study are tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results showed that the errors that students do in solving the matter of rank and root form: (1) error in understanding the meaning of the question; (2) errors in understanding and applying concepts; and (3) error in counting. Factors that cause students to make mistakes that students do not understand the purpose of the questions asked, students have not mastered the prerequisite materials such as: exponent numbers, students are less familiar with the material, students forget the formula, students do not practice in handling the problem about the numbers of rank and form roots, students are less precise in counting, students do not re-examine the answers already done.
