Abstract

Pregnant women need nutrition support that contain protein, zinc, folic acid, and vitamin C. Pregnant women may experence animea if necessary substances mentioned above are not fulfilled. Animal source foods has better nutrient content compare to plant based food. Protein and zinc substances from animal source foodscan prevent anemia if consumed adequately. The prevalence of anemia in pregnant women at Puskesmas Sambi I was 43.1%, which was greater compared to the prevalence in Indonesia according to Riskesdas 2013 (37.1%). This study aims to determine the relationship of consumption of animal source foods to hemoglobin levels of pregnant women at Puskesmas Sambi I Boyolali Regency. This research is an analytical descriptive research with cross sectional design. The sample was 38 pregnant women at the 3rd trimester which taken randomly. The consumption of animal source foods was measured by 4 x 24 hour unconsecutive food recall while the hemoglobin level was measured by cyanmethemoglobin method. The relationship of animal source foods with hemoglobin levels was analyzed using rank spearman's test correlation. Most pregnant women were categorized as not anemic (63.2%) and the rest were categorized as anemic (36.8%). Energy consumptionof respondents in the categories of sufficient were 36.8%, respondents protein consumptionswhich categorized as deficient was 63,2% andzinc consumptions of the respondents in the category of deficient were 55,3%. There was significant relationship betweenthe amount of animal source foods type (p = 0,001), the frequency ofanimal sourcefoods consumoption (p = 0,001), energy consumption (p = 0,000), protein (p = 0.002), and zinc substance (p = 0,000) with hemoglobin level of pregnant women at Puskesmas I Sambi Boyolali Regency.
