Abstract

STIMULATION PROCESS OF EARLY LITERACY BY PRESCHOOL TEACHER IN SCHOOL Ensap Sri Mulat, Lisnawati Ruhaena, Zahrotul Uyun Magister Psikologi Profesi, Fakultas Psikologi UMS Email: ensapsrimulat@gmail.com Abstract The process of stimulating early literacy skills by teachers in schools is essential to support the child's early literacy skills. This study aims to get an overview of the process of early literacy skill stimulation performed by preschool teachers in schools and recommendations for the design of effective early literacy stimulation programs. This research uses qualitative approach of explorative study method using open questionnaire and interview as data collecting tool. The study involved 150 preschool teachers in Klaten District. The results and conclusions from the study indicate that the process of early literacy stimulation that is commonly done by preschool teachers in schools focuses on coding, which is about alphabetical knowledge, syllabic reading skills, words, sentences, and fluent reading. How stimulation that focuses on coding initially makes children enthusiastic about literacy materials, but because they tend to be textual and less attractive, so many children become bored easily, sleepy, unfocused and more happy to play during the stimulation process. Based on these facts it is known that teachers need an alternative way of stimulating of early literacy that not only focus coding, but also stimulate reading interest, accommodate the characteristics of child concentration, and play as their needs. For that I recommend a program I AM READING as a stimulant program is recommended to complement the process of stimulation that has been done.
