Abstract

Chemical plant design dymethyl ether from methanol with alumina as catalist. Dymethyl ether is not a poisonous compound, cosmetic company and medical company use it as aerosol propellant as subtitute for CFC propellant. This plant is planed to operate for 330 days/year and will be build on 2022 in Bontang, East Kalimantan. By considering the need of DME in indonesia and to decrease the dependence of import, so this plant were planed to operated with capacity 20.000 ton/year. This plant uses FBR reactor (fixbed reactor). The reaction occurs in the gas state which running on pressure 14.5 atm and temperature 250°C. Then DME is purified until we got the purification of product Dymethyl ether 99,95%. To support the production process so it’s need’s to builds unit utility which includes: (1) water purifier and water supply unit 666,691 kg/hour (2) steam supplier (3) electricity supplier 483 kW (4) gas supplier 1324,88194 kg/hour). (5) air pressure supplier 50 m3/year. This plant is equipped with laboratory to maintain grade and quality of product in order to fit it with the spesification you want. From the income, Return On Investment (ROI) before tax is 85,97% after tax is 42,98%. Pay Out Time (POT) before tax is 1,04 year and after tax is 1,89 year. Break Even Point (BEP) is 25,93%. Shut Down Point (SDP) is 13,79%. And Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) is 31,48%. From the analysis data, so we can make a conclusion this Dymethyl Ether plant is profitable and worthy to build.
