Abstract

The average adult woman aged 20-60 years has about twice as much fat as men. Fats in women often appear in the waist area and around the abdomen, this results in women difficult to maintain the ideal abdominal circumference. The abdominal circumference value ≥80cm in women is defined as central obesity. Sit-up exercise is an abdominal exercise that aims to strengthen the abdominal muscles, reduce body fat and increase muscle mass. Crunch exercise is a sport that works on the abdominal muscles that can burn fat. This study aims to determine the effect of crunch and sit-up on the decrease in abdominal circumference in women and know the difference between the two. Research type is Quasieksperiment pre and post test with control two groups design. The sample in this study amounted to 20 divided into two groups, taking using purposive sampling method. Both interventions were conducted for 4 weeks with exercise frequency 3 times. The measuring tool used is the tape measure (midline). Normally distributed data were tested using Paired Sample t-test. The results obtained in the crunch showed a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05) which means there is a change in pre test and post test on crunch. The result on sit-up shows the value of p = 0,000, (p <0.05) which means there is a change of pre test and post test at sit-up. Test different effects on crunch and sit-up using Independent Sample t-test. The result shows p value = 0,000 (p <0,05). It is concluded that there is a significant difference between crunch and sit-ups, with mean values of 5,00 in crunch and 2.80 in sit-ups, which means that crunch is more effective in reducing female circumference than situps.
