Abstract

Background: Adolescence begins with biological changes one of which is experiencing menstruation. Menstrual experience of each person is different, not a few who experience menstruation accompanied by severe pain complaints. This is called dysmenorrhea. One cause of dysmenorrhea is a psychological factor, which can be a form of stress. Purpose: This study aims to determine the description of the level of psychological stress and the level of primary dysmenorrhea in S1 physiotherapy students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta Method: This study used observational research type using descriptive analytic. The design of this study was cross sectional. The instruments used to measure stress are Depression Anxiety Stress Scales 42 (DASS 42) which has been modified and measurement of primary dysmenorrhea pain using Numberic Rating Scale (NRS). Result: From the research, it was found that from 50 respondents, 21 respondents (42%) experienced moderate stress, 14 respondents had mild stress, 9 respondents with severe stress, and 6 respondents in normal level. In primary dysmenorrhea pain degree 23 respondents (46%) had moderate pain. 17 respondents with mild pain, and 10 respondents with severe pain. Conclusion: The higher the level of stress experienced, the higher the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea occurs.
