Abstract

The purpose of this research is to improve communication skills and learning activities of mathematics through CIRC learning model in students of class VIII E SMP Negeri 2 Colomadu. This research is a classroom action research conducted collaboratively between math teachers and researchers. Class VIII E students SMP Negeri 2 Colomadu as the subject of the recipients of actions amounting to 34 students and researchers as the subject of the actors. Data collection methods that is used during the study were observation methods, field notes, and documentation. Data analysis techniques that is used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The result of this research is the improvement of communication ability and mathematics learning activity which can be seen from indicator of communication ability that is: 1) Ability to express mathematical ideas through writing before action there are 11 students (32.35%), after the action becomes 26 students (76.47%) ; 2) Ability to convey mathematical ideas through oral before action there are 8 students (23.53%), after the action became 24 students (70.59%); 3) Ability to express mathematical ideas into tables, diagrams, graphs, symbols, or mathematical models before action there are 4 students (11.76%), after the action becomes 18 students (52.94%). While the learning activity indicators are: 1) Actively inquire before the action there are 5 students (14.7%), after the action becomes 22 students (64.70%); 2) Active answering Question before action there are 12 students (35.3%), after action to 27 students (79.41%); 3) Active during group work before action there were 15 students (44.12%), after action became 28 students (82.35%). It can be concluded that the application of CIRC learning model can improve communication ability and learning activity of mathematics. Keywords: communication skills, activity, CIRC
