Abstract

There are problem of decreasing energy source of petroleum has been experienced by Indonesia from year to year. One source of alternative energy that is environmentally friendly and renewable is biogas. The palm sugar liquid waste contains biological oxygen demand (BOD) 1,806 mg / L and chemical oxygen demand (COD) 4,231 mg / L. The amount of content of BOD and COD is then this study aims to treat the palm sugar liquid waste into biogas. The process of making biogas is done mixing dung and urine of cow on the palm sugar liquid waste stem. The research variables were performed with the addition of urea and molasses nutrients. Comparison of this variable to know the production of biogas produced the most optimal. The test is done by using Gas Chromatography (GC) to know the level of methane and carbon dioxide as well as the measurement of biogas volume and flame produced in biogas which include: (1) without the addition of nutrients (2) the addition of urea nutrition with variation of 2,4,6 gram and (3) nutritional mixture of urea and molasses (2 grams of urea: 2 mL molases), (2 grams of urea: 4 mL molases), (2 grams of urea: 6 mL molases). From the research that has been done, the result of methane gas of urea nutrient addition is 5,48; 8.46; and 5.39%. While the nutrient mixture of urea and molasses respectively of 5.7; 4.57; and 4.96% or increased methane gas compared with no nutrients of 3.81%. From these results in the most optimal biogas production on the addition of urea 4 grams of 8.46%. For biogas volume measurement, the results were obtained for 60, 75, and 99 mL, respectively. While the nutrient mixture of urea and molasses respectively of 102, 115, and 125 mL. Where an increase in gas volume compared with biogas without nutrients of 50 mL.
