Abstract

ABSTRACT Having an optimistic attitude is the expectation of every student, especially for senior students who will one step graduate as a graduate, but in fact there are still many senior students who tend to delay in completing their studies and worry about the future that will be faced. Future optimism at senior students can have a positive impact of good hopes for facing any future challenges that cover all areas of life. One of the factors that fostered the attitude of future optimism in students is the hardiness personality. For every student, being a strong person will foster an optimistic attitude in the face of his future. The purpose of this research is to know the relationship between hardiness personality with optimism of the future at the senior students in Faculty of Psychology Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The hypothesis proposed is that there is a positive relationship between the hardiness personality with the future optimism. The subject of this study amounted to 94 final year students in faculty of psychology in Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The sampling technique uses incidental random sampling and data collection using hardiness personality scales and future optimism. Data analysis technique using Spearman Nonparametric correlation test. The results show that the hypothesis proposed is accepted that there is a positive relationship between hardiness personality with optimism the future. The level of hardiness personality in the student is high, while the future optimism of the students is moderate. The effective contribution of hardiness personalities to future optimism is 55.5%.
