Abstract

Along with the many enthusiasts on the dance of Korea, there are many dance covers about Korea, it shows that Korean dance has attracted the attention of Korean culture fans (Hong, 2014). From the phenomenon shows that Korean culture especially dance cover has been commodified. Barker (2004, p.14) explains that commodification is a process always associated with capitalists, in which objects, signs and qualities are transformed into commodities. In the journal Cukhwuma and Ugwu (2014) says that capitalism is the basis of commodification, social relations and production. Therefore commodification is done because it can be profitable. The capitalists basically focus on how they gain a profit from selling a product as a commodity. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. Technique of collecting data by interview in depth and selecting informant with purposive sampling technique. Data analysis method in this research use interactive analysis and previously used validity testing with source triangulation. The results of this study is known commodification dancers on U-Cee Solo motive is the social motif and economic motifs that form the social commodification with the expertise and commodification of the economy with the service dancer. Causes of commodification on2 demands, demands of existence and self-actualization and income demands (economic income). The process of commodification includes the initial process that begins with the development of skills by utilizing the ability of members so that it can help other members have the same ability, the stage of implementation and the final stage is by pricing, promoting and also determining competitive strategy.
