Abstract

Typhoid fever is a disease that attacks the small intestine. From World Health Organization (WHO) data, the number of cases of typhoid fever reached 17 million cases. In Indonesia there are 600,000-1.3 million cases of typhoid each year with more than 20,000 deaths. Typhoid is related with bad behavior to health. From the results of interviews conducted on May 5 2017, 8 people with typhoid who came to the Gajahan Public Health Center 5 people said that not washing hands before eating and happy snacks, while 3 others said that not washing hands before eating and not washing hands after a bowel movement. This researched an observational analytic research with cross sectional approach. The study population was school-aged children who came to treatment at the Gajahan Public Health Center in January to December 2016 obtained data of 135 people. The sample of the study were 32 schoolaged children who were determined using proportional sampling technique. The research data were collected using questioner which then analyzed using chi square analysis. The result showed that the result of chi square test of the relationship of hand washing behavior with the occurrence of tifoid obtained  2 2 value of 17,913 (p = 0,000) so that H 0 rejected and the result of chi square test relation of consumption of snack with the occurrence of tifoid obtained  2 value 4,265 (p = 0,039) so that H 0 rejected. The conclusion of this research are (1) there was relationship of handwashing behavior with tifoid occurrence in school age children in Gajahan Community Health Center, that was better handwashing behavior hence lower tifoid incidence, and (2) there was correlation of consumption of snack with occurrence of typhoid in child school age in the working area of Puskesmas Gajahan, the worse the snack consumption the higher the occurrence of typhoid.
