Abstract

The fragrant root (Vetiveria zianioides Linn) is known to have anticancer activity. Extract of vetiver ethanol at 20 μg / mL has cytotoxic activity against T47D cells with 95% barrier. In India, fragrant water extracts have cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 cells with IC50 values obtained at 37 μg / ml at 24 hours and 32 μg / ml at 48 hours. Indonesia is one of the primary producers of vetiver. This study was conducted to determine the cytotoxic effects of nonpolar, semipolar, and polar fractions of fragrant ethanol extract on MCF-7 cells and to know the chemical compounds contained in each fraction using TLC. The method used for the extraction was maceration with 96% ethanol. Fractionation using liquid-liquid method with separating funnel. The solvent solution used in this study was butanol, chloroform, n - hexane. The method in the cytotoxic assay used is the MTT assay method then read on the ELISA reader with 550nm uptake. IC50 values of ethanol extract, polar, semipolar, and nonpolar fractions were 977.2; 415.9; 7516.2 and 20276.8 μg / mL. The results show that ethanol extract and fragrant polar fraction fractions have moderate cytotoxic activity. The chemical compounds contained in the ethanol extract and the polar fraction of the fragrant root extract are terpenoid.
