Abstract

Infection occurs due to reduced function of the skin as a body protector that makes many germs and microorganisms enter and form colonies. Examples of skin diseases caused by bacteria are acne and burn infections. Acne can be caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and burn infection caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. Use of natural ingredients such as aloe vera to reduce antibiotic use. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of carbopol 934 concentration variation on aloe vera gel to antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Aloe vera extract obtained by smoothing the aloe vera with a blender. Aloe vera juice obtained is dried by means of freeze dryer to obtain dry powder. Aloe vera dry powder made of gel based gel of carbopol 934 with concentration 0,5%; 1%; 1.5%; and 2% w / w. Aloe vera powder was tested for its antibacterial activity using the diffusion method of wells. The bacteria used are Staphylococcus aureus which is a Gram positive bacterium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa which is a Gram negative bacteria. The mean±SD of inhibitory zone diameter of antibacterial activity of aloe vera gel with variation of carbopol 934 concentration on S.aureus and P.aeruginosa bacteria was 7.0 ± 0 mm and 7.0 ± 0 mm. The results of antibacterial activity test showed that aloe vera gel with variation of carbopol concentration 934 did not have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
