Abstract

Life expentancy in Indonesia from the year of 2015-2020 has increased from the previous period, which was at the age of 69,5 year olds. Especially in Central Java, the number of elderly is massively spot on the third rank in Indonesia and reached 10,34% from total population in Central Java. The quality of life elderly can be influenced by a chronic disease. DM is one of a chronic disease which mostly suffered by elder people in Indonesia. The longer a person suffering a DM, the more possibilities of a decline of the condition. In addition, the longer a disease endured, the more potential occurrence of a complication and mortality. The purpose of this research is to know whether is there any relationship between the suffering period with life quality of elder people who live in the area of Pajang’s Puskesmas. The method used in this research is correlational description. The number of elder people who suffered a DM in Surakarta city in 2016, and those who took a treatment at the Puskesmas reached 1.293. The population of this research is 249 people, and the number of sample used is 100 people who chosen by purposive sampling technique. This research employed a questionnaire of DQLCTQ-R consisted 34 questions, which then analyzed using Chi-Square. The result shows that the X2 is 15,198 and the p-value of 0,001. According to the result p-value < 0,05, which means there is a relationship between suffering period of DM with life quality of elder people who live in the area of Pajang’s Puskesmas Surakarta.
