Abstract

The selection of mold material in casting process will produce a product with various properties and characters. The properties of the material will very influential toward a quality of cast products. The purpose of this research is for knowing the effect of mold variation to porosity, shrinkage, hardness precentage, chemical composition, and material micro structure.This research uses aluminum or wreckage are remelting in induction kitchen, this process uses 2 variation of molds material, there are Co₂ sand mold and metal mold.The data analysis shows about the shrinkage percentage of various molds. The first is shrinkage percentage of co₂sand molds variation, there is 1.357%, and the second is metal molds variation, it has 2,904%. Based on the data, The result describe that the the highest shrinkage percentage is metal mold and the lowest shrinkage precentage is co₂ sand mold. On the other hand, the density testing describe the result of this processes, in this case, co₂ sand mold has 1,94 gr/ml and metal mold has 2,12 gr/ml. Nevertheless, from the other testing, there is portable hardness brinell test, it can be seen that the results of co₂ sand mold is 21.23 BHN and the metal mold is 33.17 BHN. And for the chemical composition test, there are some elements such as (Al) 98,46%, (Zn) 0,60%, (Fe) 0,38%, (Si) 0,18%, and (Cu) 0,167%.
