Abstract

The purpose of this research is (1) to know the chemical composition of Brass flange castings and (2) to know the Influence of Cooling Media Variation on Hardness of Flange Kuning castings with metal mold, (3) to know the Influence of Cooling Media Variation on Micro Flange Structure of Brass with casting metal. The results of the Chemical Composition Test obtained 18 alloys in Brass Flange Cut, the dominant elements are Cu (66.4%), Zn (27.9%), Pb (2.22%) and Sn (1.38%). For Hardness Testing, the highest hardness level in brine cooling medium was 44.33 HRB successively to the lowest hardness ie SAE 10 oil cooling media of 37.78 HRB and lowest on air cooling medium of 33.08 HRB. In the micro-photographic observations the microstructures consisted of the formation of Cu which was soft (low hardness) and Zn as a hardness enhancer affecting the level of hardness, with different crystal grain sizes indicating that the degree of violence was different.
