Abstract

This study aims to describe the increase in mathematics learning activities by using realistic learning model mathematics education in students of class VIII H SMP Negeri 17 Surakarta academic year 2016/2017. This research is a classroom action research. Techniques of collecting data through observation methods, tests, field notes, and documentation.Data analysis techniques through the flow method that includes three components of data reduction, data presentation and withdrawal of conclusions (data verification).The validity of the data using triangulation of investigators. The result of the research showed that (1) students' activity in asking from initial condition only (19,05%), cycle I (42,86%), and cycle II increased to (85,71%), (2) Student activity in submitting opinion from initial condition (14,29%), cycle I (38,10%), and cycle II increased to (90,48%), (3) Student activity in answer teacher question from initial condition (23 , 81%), cycle I (52.38%), and cycle II increased to (85.71%), (4) Student activity in cooperation with other students from initial condition (42,86%), cycle I (66 , 67%), and in cycle II increased to (90,48%),2 and (5) student activity in solving problem given by teacher from initial condition (33,33%), cycle I (52,38%), and in cycle II increased to (80,95%). Based on the description can be concluded that the application of learning model realistic mathematics education can increase learning activities mathematics.
