Abstract

Background: The qualified human resources should be prepared by optimizing the growth and development of children appropriative with their needs. The growth and development of children are influenced by some factors, one of the most important factors is Breast Milk, and baby death cases in Indonesia can be anticipated by the giving of Exclusive Breast Milk. The lowest range of 0-6 months old babies breastfed exclusively in Karanganyar Local Medical Center (Puskesmas) is 36,5 %, and this number is still under the national target which is 80%. Objective: This research aimed to find out the influential factors in the act of Exclusive Breastfeeding in the area of Karanganyar Local Medical Center (Puskesmas). Subject and Methods: This research used qualitative research design. The methods of collecting data were in-depth interview and Focus Group Discussion. The sources of the research were two key correspondences and other correspondences. The number of sample correspondence is nineteen. Results: There were four mother-correspondences who did Exclusive Breastfeeding and the rest seven did not. Conclusions: Factors influencing the succession of Exclusive Breastfeeding were: high education background mother, good understanding mother about Exclusive Breastfeeding, high motivation and the support of medical workers. In another hand, the obstructive factors were: working mother status, bad elucidation conduction about Exclusive Breastfeeding , wrong perception of baby sitter and family, babies’ health problem during the breastfeeding, the unstable flow of breast milk which resulted in the giving of substitutes and birth with section caesarea.
