Abstract

Learning outcomes are needed to determine the achievement of the competencies given after the learning process as a form of evaluation in education. This study aims to analyze: (1) To test the differences of independence in terms of learning with Problem Based Learning and Direct Learning learning; (2) To examine differences in independence in terms of initial capability levels; (3) To test the interaction of learning of Problem Based Learning and Direct Learning with initial ability to independence on basic competence of fractional operation. Quantitative research type with quasi experiment design. The research population of students in grade VII SMPN 2 Purwodadi year 2016/2017. Research sample is VII A as experiment class using PBL learning strategy and class VII B as control class using learning strategy DL. Sampling by cluster random sampling technique. Methods of data collection using tests and documentation. Technique of data analysis with variance analysis of two different cell roads, previously conducted prerequisite test of normality and homogeneity. The results of research on α = 5%, (1) the results of learning mathematics with PBL strategy is better than the learning strategy DL so there are differences in PBL and DL learning strategies to the results of learning mathematics; (2) the result of mathematics learning on the ability of the beginning of high category mathematics is better than the ability of early and medium category of low mathematics so that there is influence of early ability of mathematics owned by student to result of learning mathematics; (3) In the PBL learning strategy, students who have high-level early math skills acquire better mathematics learning outcomes than students with moderate and low-grade math skills. Similarly, the application of learning strategies DL, so there is interaction of learning strategies and the ability of early mathematics to the results of learning mathematics.
