Abstract
Pulping is a process of making paper. Pulp pulping process is basically the process of delignification or removal of lignin from raw materials and using a particular process. This research is intended to find the relatively optimum condition of a pulp-making process with in Lidah Mertua. The cooking solution used in the preparation of this pulp is the ethanol solution. The use of ethanol has advantages such as environmentally friendly. In this study the plants used as a material for making pulp is a plant Lidah Mertua (Sansevieria). Used plant Lidah Mertua because as a substitute for wood. In addition, this plant is also easily obtained and fulfills the pulp making composition. Preparation of pulp with raw materials Plant Lidah Mertua is done by hydrolysis, using ethanol cooking solution. The resulting pulp was washed, then dried. In the experiment of making pulp from the plant tongue Mertua with organosolv process it is explained that the lower the kappa number, the lower the ligni number. The results showed that pulp yield with the highest pulp yield was found at 5% ethanol concentration with yield of 77.2% and the lowest yield of 48.2%. This is because the greater the concentration of cooking solution and cooking time used then the yield obtained will be smaller. With the smaller yield it will affect the level of lignin obtained. The smaller the yield the lower the lignin content
