Abstract

Selection of mold material in the casting process will produce products with various properties and characters. The properties of the material will greatly affect the quality of cast products. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of variation of mold to porosity, shrinkage, hardness value, chemical composition, material micro structure. This research used aluminum or rubbers that are remelting in induction kitchen, variation of mold material used there are 3 that is sand mold times, co sand mold and metal mold. The data analysis shows that the value of shrinkage percentage for variation of sand molds is 1.26%, and variation of sand molds co₂ is 1.65%, while for metal mold variation is 2.58%. The depreciation result shows that the metal mold has the highest shrinkage value and for the lowest shrinkage is the sand mold times and for the sand mold co₂ between them, from the portable hardness brinell test results obtained for variations of sand mold times 21.23 BHN, sand mold co₂ 21.23 BHN and metal molds of 33.17 BHN. And for the test of chemical composition, there are some elements such as (Al) 98,46%, (Zn) 0,60%, (Fe) 0,38%, (Si) 0,18%, and (Cu) 0,167%.
