Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of nickel layer thickness on mechanical properties of carbon steel material including yield point, maximum tensile strength, and coarseness. The study was conducted by using carbon steel material with a thickness of 2 mm according to standard ASTM test of E8 tensile test. Ekroplating process is done by using current source in the form of rectifier / power supply with DC current, with variation of coating time 30, minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes, 150 minutes at 2.7 Volt. The test result showed that the nickel electroplating process in tensile test has the highest yield level of nickel layer in the variation of 150 minute coating at 2.7 Volt. The result of tensile strength is 49,933 N / mm², compared to the material before electroplating coating which is 35,156 N / mm² , the lowest level of surface roughness occurred at the time of 150 minute dyeing of 0.0658 μm and the highest layer thickness occurred at the time of dipping 150 minutes ie 32.151 μm.
