Abstract

This research aims to analyze and describe the mathematical communication skills on a rectangle of material based on Gender. This research using qualitative approach with type of case studies. Data collection techniques used are interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data in this study using triangulation dala data. Data analysis techniques using interactive data analysis, namely data reduction, the presentation of data, and the withdrawal of the conclusion. The subject of this research consists of 6 subjects i.e. 3 subjects of male and 3 subjects of female. The results showed that the ability of mathematical communication for VII grade of SMP Negeri 2 Kembang are reviewed from gender: (a) the male students are more able to express mathematical ideas verbally while the female students are better able to express the idea Math visually and in writing; (b) students are men and women are both equally able to understand, interpret and evaluate mathematical ideas both orally; (c) the male students are better able to describe relationships and models the situation, while female students more capable in using terms and notation-notation.
