Abstract

Biogas is a renewable energy source that is now being developed as an alternative energy source for LPG replacement. Biogas is usually made from animal and organic wastes. Some of the advantages of biogas are reducing the dependence of LPG gas usage, reducing the influence of greenhouse gases, reducing waste, relatively safer from fire hazards, and of course the cost is also very cheap. The aim of this research is to know the effect of slurry composition, addition of cow dung cosubstrat, and addition of effective microorganism (EM4) on the methane gas (CH4) and water vapor (H2O), biogas volume, and flame on the production of biogas. The stages in the research were adding slurry with cow dung cosubstrat and mixing them with 1%, 3%, and 5% variations of addition of EM4. From the research conducted in temperature 28oC and 1 atm pressure, the best result was the addition of EM4 5%, with the following details: the methane gas yield obtained was 55.84% while for the carbon dioxide gas was 34.10%. the volume produced was 400 liters and the color of the fire was blue.
