Abstract

Plastic becomes a serious problem for the environment because it is difficult to be deciphered by microoganism. So there needs to be a solution in overcoming the plastic problems that occur in the environment. Scientists have found a solution to reduce this problem by using organic materials or called bioplastics. The development of bioplastics from organic materials has been largely done from starchy materials. Bioplastics made from starch for several reasons include plastics made from starch / biomass will more easily decompose by nature and abundant amount and less utilization. Raw materials in the manufacture of bioplastics are Musa paradisiaca formatypica, the selection of raw materials Musa paradisiaca formatypica because there are abundant elements of starch and lack in utilization. Therefore in this study was conducted to study the making of bioplastic from Musa paradisiaca formatypica. This research was done by isolating Musa paradisiaca formatypica to get the starch. Then mixing with aquades, chitosan, acetic acid, glycerol with variations (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ml) and starch (5, 6, 7, 8, 9 gram). After obtaining the plastic film layer is tested to its quality such as tensile strength test, elongation test, biodegradation test and statistical test to strengthen the data obtained. From the research that has been done, the mechanical properties of plastics for elongation test are obtained by composition: 8 gram of starch, 3 ml glycerol, with elongation 21% and then repeat is obtained elongation 22% with the same composition, tensile strength test obtained composition: 5 gram of starch, 2 ml glycerol, with tensile strength 2,02966 MPa and then done repetition is obtained tensile strength 2,12108 MPa with the same composition, whereas for biodegradation test got average plastic degradation 100% for 13-16 days.
