Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know: 1) The relationship between gadget addiction with empathy at Psychology Faculty student of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, 2) How big is relationship between gadget addiction with empathy at Psychology Faculty student of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, 3) Level of gadget addiction at student of Psychology Faculty University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, 4) Level of Empathy of Psychology Faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The hypothesis proposed is that there is a relationship between gadget addiction (hanphone) with empathy to Psychology Faculty student of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Sampling technique used is purposive sampling technique, with consideration of subject criterion is student of UMS Faculty of Psychology year 2013-2015. With these criteria then the number of subjects of this study as many as 80 subjects. The result of data analysis shows the value of correlation coefficient of (r) = -0.2282 with sig. 0.011 (p <0.01). The conclusion of this study there is a negative relationship between gadget addiction with empathy. Contribution of empathy to gadget addiction is 79.52%. There are still 20.48% other factors that affect gadget addiction. Given the empirical average of gadget addiction of 102.64 and hypothetic average (RH) of 100 which means addicted gadgets on the subject quite high. While the empathy variables can be known empirical average (RE) of 72.90 and hypothetical mean of 60, which means empathy variables included in the high category.
