Abstract

Poverty is a very complex problem especially in Keparakan Village, Mergangsan Sub-district, Yogyakarta City. The poverty rate in Keparakan Village compared to other Kelurahan in Keparakan has the highest percentage of 51%, compared with 23% of Kelurahan Brontokusuman and Wirogunan Village by 26% which then impact on economy and quality of life of each resident. One of the actions in overcoming poverty is with zakat. The purpose of this research is two that is analyzing the characteristics of the recipient of zakat in Keparakan Village, Mergangsan Sub-district, Yogyakarta City and analyzing the distribution of zakat recipients in Keparakan Village, Mergangsan Sub-district, Yogyakarta City. The method used in this research is survey method by collecting information from respondent. Respondents in this study were zakat recipient population. The results of this study were (1) the demographic, social, economic, educational, and spiritual characteristics of zakat recipients were varied, namely: most of the respondents were productive (37-53 years old), female, married, low dependent (0) -2 people), last high school education, housewife job, earning less than UMR of Yogyakarta city as much as 78,3%, expenditure above UMR Yogyakarta City 21,7%, active in praying 5 time equal to 81,7% responder, sometimes performing sunnah prayers of 36.6%, and sometimes performing prayers in congregation of 53.3%; (2) the pattern of the distribution of zakat in Keparakan Village is clustering near the mosque and extending along the Code River; (3) the poor who received zakat were former immigration residents and native towns who were only able to buy houses at low land prices Keywords: analysis of the distribution of zakat recipients, zakat
