Abstract
ABSTRACTS This study aims to describe the errors that students do in resolving the problem set of the story form in terms of cognitive aspects and the factors that cause the error. This type of research is qualitative descriptive. The subjects of this study are the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Surakarta who is amounting to 24 students. Techniques of the data collection use the test methods, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data is done by triangulation of sources and techniques. Triangulation of sources in this study is the results of tests of the students and interviews, and triangulation techniques use test techniques, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques performed with the steps of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions or verification. Based on the result of the research, the percentage of understanding level is 36.15%, the application level is 44.61%, and the level of analysis is 19.23%. These results indicate the students' errors at the highest level of application than the other levels. Factors that caused the errors at the level of application is the lack of students in understanding the information in the exercise, the lack of accuracy of students, students have not been able in the correct calculation.
