Abstract

Beach Talise as the estuary of River Palu should be clean from factors that are considered being able to decelerate the river’s stream flow and to cause flood in the surrounding area. There are some major issues that cause the overflow of River Palu such as high rainfall, sedimentation that has formed a delta in the estuary due to deforestation at the upper course, the capacity of the river which is no longer able to accommodate the flood discharge as well as the effect of backwater that occurs during high tide conditions that cause the flow of water from upstream dammed so that the impact is river water level increase. Because of the reason, the currenct research is conducted to find out whether the increasing of floodwaters at the cross section of River Palu is caused by flod high sea tide that happened simultaneously which is effected by backwater. In this study used rainfall data, tidal data, cross section data, long section data and maps of the Palu River situation. All of the above data are then used to perform hydraulic analysis with HEC-RAS software. In conditions with and without tidal flood discharges are used for re-flooding 2,5,10,25, and 50 years as boundary condition on the upstream and as boundary condition downstream in condition with tidal use highest high tide level. Boundary condition downstream on condition without tidal use friction slope. The results showed that the magnitude of flood discharge of Palu River plan at conditionQ_2= 966.372 m³/sec,〖 Q〗_5= 1131.194 m³/sec, Q_10= 1235.828 m³/sec, Q_25 = 1364.332 m³/sec dan Q_50= 1458.269 m³/sec.The increasing of floodwaters of River Palu is caused by the rise and fall of the tides between 0.01 – 2.84 metres where the far-off cross section of River Palu which is bumped by backwater is the cross section at the station 183, 8.8 km from the estuary or lower course of River Palu.
