Abstract

Adolescence is a very easy period of transition for teenagers for influenced in many things that will debilitate their character. Various news released by print and electronic media have informed that the character of the nation in the present is bad. Therefore, education has an important role in bringing and improving character to the children in the high school, not only providing education that fosters the potential of students, but also a strategic place to give moral messages. Moral messages is character education processes that can be provided through non formal education within the school. SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta tried to give the character education through Islamic mentoring program. The formulation of the problem in this research is how to organise mentoring program itself in improving the character education of students as well as the supporting and resistor factors in 2017. Then the purpose of this research is to describe the implementation and the efforts of Islamic mentoring program in improving character education. This research includes field research type (field research) with qualitative approach. Data collection used interview, observation, and documentation. Methods of data analysis used qualitative data in the form of narration or paragraph and not numbers data by reduction data, and display data. Furthermore, it can be conclude with the deductive method of thinking way comes from the theory and then customized with data. Based on the data analysis of research results can be concluded that mentoring program is a compulsory school program that provides guidance and intensive assistance to students through the knowledge of Islam. All school personel mutually support the existence of this program, because there is relationship between the parties of teachers of Islamic Education, Rohis and Youth Development Institution of Kriya Mandiri. The mentoring program has been strived in improving the character education and the categories are: the material targets are given to students is about character education, the small group that becomes the forum for the students, the modeling of an interactive mentor, the direct method of reinforcement, the harmonious of ukhuwah islamiyah.
