Abstract

ABSTRACT Backgorund: Cardiorespiratory endurance is one of the main aspects required in sports. Cardiorespiratory endurance is influenced by the function of cardiovascular system, respiratory system, and body oxygenation system. Improving body oxygenation system is no less important than improving cardiovascular and respiratory system in an effort to improve cardiorespiratory endurance. Human body adapts to sport activity by increasing the amount of ventilation rate (hyperventilation), which leads to decreased efficiency of body oxygenation system. Buteyko Breathing Technique is one of the breathing exercises aimed at improve body oxygenation system, which focused on decreasing the amount of ventilation rate and increasing carbon dioxide level to optimize body oxygenation process. Research Aims: To determine the effect of Buteyko Breathing Technique in improving cardiorespiratory endurance. Methods: This is a research using Quasi Experimental and Pre-Post Tests with a Control Group Design. 22 samples were chosen using purposive sampling method. Results: The result of Mann-Whitney test at VO2max differences between treatment and control group is P value of (0,039). Conclusion: Buteyko Breathing Technique may improve cardiorespiratory endurance.
