Abstract

he aim of this research is to know (1) Profile of overseas student of South Sumatera in Surakarta, (2) Character of independence of overseas student of South Sumatera in Surakarta, (3) Character of responsibility of overseas student of South Sumatera in Surakarta. This research uses descriptive research with qualitative approach. Data collection in this study used observation, documentation, and interview. The validity of the data using the data triangulation technique. Analysis of data using interactive models through data collection, data reduction, presentation and conclusion. The results showed that: (1) South Sumatra overseas students in Surakarta amounted to 63 people, there are several factors that encourage students overseas excuse South Sumatra to migrate to the city of Surakarta, ie want to get a better education, achieve success, want to be independent, and seek new experiences, (2) The character of independence of students of South Sumatra in Surakarta can be concluded that overseas students of South Sumatera can form a character of independence well which is seen based on some indicators of independence, shown by overseas students of South Sumatra by immediately doing the task of lecturing by themselves without relying on friends , dare to take risks and be able to understand the people around him. (3) The character of the responsibilities of the students of South Sumatra in Surakarta can be concluded that overseas students of South Sumatera can form a good character of responsibility which is seen based on several indicators of responsibility, shown by the students by doing lecture work in earnest, sincere consequences for misconduct, settling duties and tasks on time, and doing tasks based on his own work.
