Abstract

This study aims to predict, as well as analyze the pattern of temperature distribution and air velocity in a room that has the installation of two split AC units. CFD simulation approach is applied in this study by preceded experimental measurements on actual conditions for data validation. In this study, the room measuring 10.45 m x 8.1 m x 3.92 m located in Room H 404 Faculty of Engineering serve as a simulation object. Three variations of air velocity measured at the front of the evaporator, ie at AC 1 unit 2,467 m / s, 3,733 m / s and 5 m / s, while AC unit 2 1,833 m / s, 2,733 m / s and 3,2 m / s becomes a parameter that is altered to investigate its effect on the distribution of temperature and air velocity. The simulation process begins with validating three different types of mesh 149328 element, 327440 element, 971209 element as the standard step that must be passed on simulation / computation based research to determine mesh construction that can produce simulation data than measurement data. The assumption in the simulation is empty space and there is no influence of heat from outside the room. (explain IC, BC, etc.) Based on the validation done, the mesh construction 971209 element is able to provide the most accurate prediction with the difference level with the measurement result of 4.53%. The simulation of three variations of air velocity across the evaporator shows that it does not have a significant effect on the average temperature in the room where the results are 23.73 ° C, 23.28 ° C and 23.77 ° C. While the average air velocity in the room there is an increase in each variation obtained results of 0.05 m / s, 0.08 m / s and 0.11 m / s.
