Abstract

Selection of mold material in casting process will produce the product with its own character and character. These properties are very influential on the quality of cast products. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the mold to memudahan production process, porosity, shrinkage, quality of the cast product integrity, hardness, density and microstructure of the material. This research uses used aluminum or rubbers in remelting in kristibel kitchen, variation of mold materia l used there are 3 that is RCS mold (Resin Coated Sand), cement mold and clay mold. Analysis of the data showed that the percentage of shrinkage for cement mold mold variation 1.24%, to mold clay variation of 0.76%, while for the mold RCS variation of 1.72%. Results of the study show that the mold shrinkage RCS has the highest value and the lowest shrinkage is mold mold clay and cement in between, from Brinell test results obtained for a variety of cement amounted to 71.798 BHN mold, mold clay and mold RCS 67.365 BHN BHN at 77.239. From the results of testing the chemical composition found some elements include (Al) 83.14%, (Si) 10.2%, (Fe) 2.54%, (Zn) 3.44%, (Cu) 0.118% and Mn 0.278 %.
