Abstract

Soil located in Troketon Village, Pedan Sub District, Klaten Regency is an unstable soil. The soil includes clay that has a low water-sensitive low bearing. Research with lime column obtained cohesion value (c) native soil of 0.5393 kg/cm2 and columns of lime sand have cohesion value (c) 0.3402 kg/cm2 and original friction value of 1.81˚ (Merdhiyanto, 2015). To solve the soil problem, 2 soil stabilization needs to be done, in order to be stable and safe to establish a construction on it. In this research we will study the improvement of stabilization method with lime and tras which is observed from the shear strength, with 5% lime ratio and 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% tras, so it is expected that the shear strength will be high. In this research, physical properties and mechanical properties of the original soil and mixed soil are examined. Physical properties tests include moisture content, specific gravity, Atterberg boundaries, granule size analysis, on mechanical properties tests including compaction test (standard proctor) and soil shear strength. The results of the specific gravity, liquid limit, shrinkage limit and filter analysis tend to show a decline, the largest decrease in percentage of lime 5% and tras 20%. The values of specific gravity and plastic limit have increased. Under the AASHTO system (American Society for Testing and Materials) the soil belongs to the classification of groups A-7-6 which is a moderate to bad soil clay. Based on USCS (Unified Soil Classification System) the soil is included in the CH symbol which is a non organic soil with high plasticity. For compaction test, the optimum water content value decreased, inversely proportional to the value of the weight of the dried contents. Result of test of DST (Direct Shear Test) cohesion value have increase, biggest value at percentage of lime 5% and tras 20% that is 1.26 kg/cm2. At the shear angle value in increasing as the percentage of the mixture increases, the highest value of the frictional angle is 13.410˚.
