Abstract

Soil is one of the most important parts in the construction of civil buildings, because it is useful as the main element of the foundation of a building. Climatic conditions in Indonesia are also very influential on clay soil conditions, because the clay soil has a high shrinkage. So that when the dry season the land will ran into shrinkage, while the rainy season the land will undergo development. There are many ways to stabilize the soil, one of which is by stabilization by adding red brick powder as a stabilizing material. The mixture of red brick powder can increase the bearing capacity. The purpose of this research is to know the change of soil physical properties, strong value of support, and the value of soil development after stabilization with red brick powder. This research method in the form of a series of physical properties of soil testing include water content test, specific gravity, Atterberg boundary, and soil grain size analysis and soil mechanical properties testing in the form of standard test Proctor and CBR. Based on the physical characteristic of original clay, water content 6,519%, specific gravifty 2,638, liquid limit 64,14%, plastic limit 30,76%, shrinkage limit 12,38%, and plasticity index 33,37%. Based on the AASHTO the original clay belongs to the A-7-5 group whereas based on the USCS the original clay belongs to the CH group, which is a clay that has high plasticity. Tests on the properties of clay soil properties stabilized with red brick powder 4%, 8%, and 12% showed that water content value, specific gravity, liquid limit, and percentage value of pass filter. 200 decreased, while the value of plastic limit and shrinkage limit increased. The classification of AASHTO mixed soil belongs to group A-7-5 whereas according to USCS mixed soil belong to MH group, that is, high-plastic inorganic silt land. The soil with a mixture of 12% had the smallest dry volume weight, the highest optimum moisture content was obtained in a 12% mixture with values of 1.4 g / cm 3 and 24%. CBR value with the largest immersion at 6% and CBR value without using immersion at 28% in mixed soil 12%. The value of development decreased with increasing percentage of mixture, that is 0.644% in 12% mixture.
